BMW has officially unveiled the all-new eighth-generation 5 Series in India, now available exclusively in the long wheelbase (LWB) format. Priced at ₹72.90 lakh (ex-showroom), this latest model will rival the upcoming Mercedes-Benz E-Class set to debut later this year. This marks the first time the 5 Series LWB is offered in a right-hand drive configuration since its global debut in September last year.
Design Highlights
The new 5 Series LWB makes a strong impression with its imposing size, boasting dimensions that rival those of the 7 Series. With a length of 5,175 mm, width of 1,900 mm, height of 1,520 mm, and a wheelbase of 3,105 mm, it surpasses the upcoming E-Class LWB.
The exterior design features an updated all-black illuminated kidney grille framed with golden bezels, a sporty front bumper with large air dam vents, and sleek side skirtings with gloss black accents. It rides on 18-inch star-pattern alloy wheels and sports a coupe-like sloping roofline. At the rear, the sleek tri-LED taillights and sporty bumper with an all-black diffuser and quad-tip exhaust complete the look.
Interior & Features
Inside, the 5 Series LWB offers a blend of modernity and sophistication. The cabin includes a multi-layered dashboard with a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, both powered by BMW’s 8.5 OS. Premium Tan Brown leatherette seats and a sleek three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel are part of the M Sport package.
Key features include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 360-degree camera, wireless phone charging, four-zone climate control, and an 18-speaker Bowers and Wilkins audio system. The car also offers ventilated and powered front seats with memory function, USB-C ports, and advanced Level 2 ADAS.
Powertrain
Under the hood, the 5 Series LWB is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that delivers 255 bhp and 400 Nm of torque. It is paired with an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission and a 48V mild-hybrid system that provides an additional 11 bhp and 25 Nm. The car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h. It also features adaptive suspension and multiple drive modes for varied driving conditions.
